Introduction to Certifications
Environmental certifications serve as a useful tool for businesses to prove their dedication to sustainability, and communicate their environmental commitment to consumers. There are many types of certifications available to businesses, which usually certify part of the supply chain, or disposal methods. Achieving certifications help us communicate our goals to customers and stay true to our eco-friendly business model, but it is important to remember that they are not a "fix-all" solution. Regardless, SR Mailing have pursued a few certifications to secure the mission of our products and be transparent in our practices.
Global Recycled Standard: SR Mailing = Certified!
The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a voluntary product standard for tracking and verifying the content of recycled materials in a final product. It is essentially a badge for products that use proper recycled materials, and want to be transparent to their customers about their recycling methods. The GRS covers all stages of products made from 20% recycled material:
- processing
- manufacturing
- packaging
- labelling
- trading
- distribution
The standard is not just about recycling, though. It looks into where things come from, how they're made, and if the people involved are treated right. GRS cares about the environment, and supports companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products and verify responsible social, environmental and chemical practices in the production of these products. If a product has the GRS badge, you can be sure that the product is recycled and created properly, aligning with environmental goals. So, if you are into products that are green and boast social responsibility, GRS certification is for you!
SR Mailing 100% recycled mail bags are certified under the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). Our recycled materials comes from film formerly used for agricultural activities - agricultural mulch to be exact. The mulch is picked up locally around the recycling centre, and turned into products using a certified recycling process. We've given this plastic a second life, turning them into our 100% recycled mailing bags!
Why? Well, it is not just about being green - although that is a big part of it. It is about making sure we are using top-notch materials. Our bags are not just recycled for the sake of it, they are recycled with a purpose. By using this once agricultural plastic, we are giving single-use plastic a one-way ticket back into the recycling loop. We get cool, high-quality materials and the planet gets a break from plastic waste.
Our range of mail bags are made from 100% recycled Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE). When you are done with them, they can be recycled again! Just peel off the glue strip, and they are good to go. For all the eco-conscious businesses out there, we recommend making a note on your packing slip to let your customers know how to give these bags another life once they're done. That way, your customers can dispose of their mail bag confidently.
Climate Partner: Carbon Neutral options
Recycled content is one of our main fortes when developing our product line, but its not always easy to reduce emissions to nothing. We also work with Climate Partner to make our products carbon neutral, with 95% of our products being earth-friendly. We offset 570,380kg of carbon emissions via the Wind energy project in Northeast Brazil. ID: 15019-2103-1001 We do this so we can recycle our products properly, and still keep carbon emissions associated with our products low.

Home Compostable: Certified under AS5810
As we dive deeper into sustainable options, it's crucial to back up our claims with solid evidence. Compostable products are a great alternative to traditional plastics, a viable option besides paper, and can be disposed of in your home compost bin as long as certified to do so.
That is why we have made sure our compostable products comply with AS5810: the Australian standard for biodegradability in home composting conditions. This certification helps guarantee that your home compost will be safe and our mailing bags will biodegrade properly! This certification gives you peace of mind that our mailing bags will break down safely, leaving your compost heap happy and healthy. So, rest easy knowing that not only are you choosing a sustainable option, but you're also supporting the environment in a big way! This certificate also guarantees that our product will break down into non-toxic material in a home compost, with a time frame of around 6-12 months. Make sure to always check the labels on bags to check for home composting versus industrial composting. Industrial composting is slightly different, as it can be composted but only in a proper compost facility (not your home bin).

Our Final Thoughts
Sustainable, Responsible and determined to reduce our impact on the environment. Although we value certifying our business so that our customers can see our dedication to sustainability, we know its not the perfect solution. Sustainability comes from a combination of things: lower our own emissions, analysing transport, investing in renewable energy, ensuring proper end-of-life for our products, and much much more. Which is why we do not want to stop with certifications, but want to only use them as a tool for transparency and accountability. And in the near future, we hope to be a completely carbon neutral company.
